Lion Fish

Just a heads up for anyone living in Florida. Anyone looking for some nice sized Volitans Lionfish. I went diving last week off of daytona beach and there were some huge Volitans off a jetty. Right now there actually telling people to spear them because they are an introduced species. I have never seen one before in the atlantic so it kinda took me by surprise.

Have you captured any? I live right down the street in Port Orange. I'm setting up my FO tank right now, would love to get a lion fish in there... let me know if you come across any more.

See if you can make a few hundred bucks off your next dive. How many feet of water were they seen in?

There was a recent article in a South Carolina magazine where the South Carolina Fish and Wildlife was collecting them for removal off the coastline. I think they collected around a dozen over a couple of dives.

The article said a large stock of Lionfish was accidentally introduced into the Atlantic/gulf when some Florida livestock tanks (full of lionfish among others) flooded during hurricanes and all the fish got washed to sea. I wonder if that is where yours came from.
