Jumping fish....midas blenny
How long can a fish survive out of water???
I found my blenny out of the tank, I have no idea how long he was there. He wasn't wet so I assume for sometime. I put him back in, and he kind of swam, but mostly floated to the bottom. He is still breathing and eventually made it to his hole.
Will he be ok?? It's about a 4-5' fall from the top of the tank.

Well, its been about 14hrs and he is still good. He is eating as well!!! I think he'll be ok!!
And to think my 2 cats were just standing over him, starring. I can't believe they didn't try to eat him.

Glad he's doing alright! I've never rescued a Salt water fish like that,.. but the same thing happened to one of my Oscars,.. He was out of water for quite a while,.. threw him back in and I was sure he'd be a gonner,.. but he pulled through!

Got the new acrylic tops installed....no more jumping fish for me.
Should I drill holes all over the top for better oxygen exchange??

Yeah, I'd drill hole for oxygen as well as keeping the temp down. tops tend to raise the tank temp. Glad he seems to be recovering for you. I wasn't so lucky with my mandarin, I didn't even know they were jumpers.

Holes are a necessity. You really would gbe better off by simply using eggcrate instead of acrylic with holes drilled into it.
Glad to hear your fish came through.

yep eggcrate is great, but sometimes the fish are small enough they get thru it no problem and that's when you gotta try something else. I used window screen to cover the back of my canopy. only had small cuts for wires and somehow my mandarin found one of those holes and got out.

Eggcrate....never thought of that. The only ones small enough to fit are my chromis', but I haven't had problems with them jumping. My blenny is around 4".
Even with the holes the acrylic temps have increased, had a high of 83.4 yesterday, nothing a fan and some ice didn't cure . Temps in Buffalo have been in the low 90's with high humidty, which isn't helping either.
The blenny is still doing good!!! He recovered nicely!!

I had an Oscar in a 45 gallon at my parents house about 5 years ago. He had grown to almost 6" long before he jumped out of the tank. He made it all the way down the upstairs hallway to the bathroom doorway (about 20'). I think he was trying to see where all the other fish I had were going when they got sick or died...(flush). Who knows how long he had been there before my mom came home, found him, picked him up with a grocery bag over her hand (ha ha ha ha ha ha) and threw him back in. He survived until he reached 10" long and then I had to sell him...
