Electric Scallops


has anyone ever kept these scallops..they look the same as flames but they shoot electricity from the tentacles..would they be reef & fish safe.

Yes they are reef and fish safe. But like already said...dont live long.

not exactly electricity shooting from their tentacles, more like a flash along the mantle. another one of those critters we are not sure what they eat, or we are not getting enough of what they eat in the tank. they do come from very nutrient rich watters, so it is most likely a quantity of food problem than a what food do they really eat problem.

Not to but their natural life span is short that is why i dont buy them. They are way cool though.
They need phyto I think b/c the flashing is to attract plankton at night.

the flashing comes from the hundreds of eyes. cool but costly for the obvious reasons, short life span and never seeing it.

Not to sound contradictary but I've had one for about a year and a half. Of course it found a place in the tank that I have to get behind the tank to see it. I've never fed it for that reason and it does seem to be growing.

When it dies I certainly won't replace it. I probably just got lucky on keeping this one alive.
