does anyone know...

I have a ribbon eel that I've had for several months and about a month ago a potion of his nose was bitten of by my niger trigger (which was soon relocated) during feeding time. My eel is becoming more active and is eating again but his snout still looks like a open wound. You can basically look down one side of his nasal cavity and the damage extends almost up to the eye. Will he eventually regenerate the lost tissue? I treated it with melafix and it doesn't seem to bother him or look infected, I'm just hoping it will grow back.

Wow, that is a very interesting question. Sorry I do not have an answer for you, but am going to tag along to see if anybody else does or has experienced something like this before. I am glad to hear that it is active and eating still as those are promising signs.

Best of luck with it.

Best I can tell you is I had a green moray that got into it w/ a leopard shark years ago, and in the heat of a eating frenzy a lil chunk was taken out of the eels neck area. It was an open looking wound for some time, but didnt regenerate, it just kind of scarred over. Yours will probably do the same, meaning just scarr tissue over the wound. The good news of your story is the ribbon eel is eating!!!! That's half the battle right there!! Good luck, I'm sure he'll be fine, and the risk for infection phase is probably at the tail end, so that's great news!!

Thanks for giving some good news! This is my third blue ribbon eel so I wasn't very happy when I noticed he was missing a part of his snout Considering this has been the third thing to threaten his life since I've had him. But he seems to be a hardy guy so I think he'll pull through.
