Can you cut a Feather Duster?

I bought this feather duster, who is probably like 12-14 inches long, it seams like part of it is dead(kind of clear torwards the end) could it be trimmed down? i dont want to hurt it, but i have to hide in under all my rocks, and then that takes space for my fishes to hide. Any Advice?

I wouldn't either unless maybe ripped and is folded over and hasn't come out for a while.

If you are just talking about the tube, it should be OK as long as you are sure the worm never travels down that far. I had a feather dusters tube that became damaged and he built new tube and the old area became clear as you described. Snip and it was gone.

Just don't cut within an inch or so of where he retreats to.

sounds good, i might just cut off the clear part even though i want to cut more off. I can see right through the tube at the end and i dont see anything so im sure he's hidden up the tube more.

you should be fine. be careful though because you may scare him out and force him to make a new tube.

It's just the tube. You can cut it.

So i did cut off a little peice off of my feater duster, this is what it looked like before. I still left about an inch of the dead part on there becasue i did not want to cut the main part of it. How long does one of these usually get?

they will build up a section under the rock to secure themselves and then they will build out until they are happy with the placement.

Ive seen one actually build two seperate tubes before...both connected so he could move back and forth without ever leaving, and he extended feathers out of the ends of BOTH at different times.

Thats cool, when i cut it the worm tried retreating to the bottom, and slid out of the bottom and scared the c R A P out of me. i thought i had killed it. i think he's only like 4 inches long and the tube is about a foot long.
