Brittle star Q
Can a brittle star go without direct feeding in an established tank for two weeks, just on scavenging?
Thanks!

I would think so in most tanks...I rarely feed my brittle or serpent stars directly.

Im assuming you have a 14g biocube? I say it might but that is quite a long time for a brittle star to go with out feeding in such a small tank. But in regards to scavenging what do u feed the rest of your live stock?

I only feed mine directly half dozen times a year. It is a good 12 to 15" so it is good sized in a 125 gal for four years. Most of the time I have halides on and it is really too bright for his comfort so I really have to coax him to come out in the daytime.

I used to never see mine except once a month or so i will see his black arm pop out from a rock never fed him unless i saw his arm waving and i would put some Frozen food near him but besides that never really did anything special but a 14g might be hard for him to live without direct feeding

I have never direct fed mine either and it does quite well scavenging around the tank, which is what you actually want them to do.

scavenging sounds good to me. I have never had a brittle star personally. There was one star creature that was like 2-3 centimeters long and was white. it was crawling around on my rocks while I was cleaning the tank but i haven't seen it since I wonder if one of my fish ate it. BAD FISH!! LOL

Chocolate chip stars will eat anything that cannot move out of their way.

I'm in the same boat here, but I'm more inclined to believe its very lazy. Why move out and about when the food comes to it. I have seen mine only about 3 times in 6 months, but it looks very slightly bigger each time
