Another Eel Question

Hey All,

still working on a stocking list for the 125g FOWLR for Papa. So far he has some clowns and butterflies and a few firefish.

He expressed interest a single eel. I was curious if anybody knew of one we wouldn't have to lie awake at night worrying about it eating his clowns or damsels?

Snowflakes? Maybe a blue ribbon? I'm also not opposed to just telling him
NO EELS!!

I have had a few snowflakes and they are not totally hidden during the day. Once trained for feeding they will come out whenever you bring food. They will escape though, make sure you have a tight secure lid. A great addition to a tank.

hi gil , there is this misnomer that eels in a tank want to eat every fish in your tank . eels are lazy ! when fronted with the choice between food that is non-moving and easy to get or having to expel a bunch of energy to chase a meal down they would go for the first choice . a healthy fish will not be bothered by an eel , about the only time a healthy fish would be in any danger is during feeding as some eels tend to get agitated .
keep an eel well feed and it will pose no problems to the other fish . if your really leary of eels but want one, go with something from the echidna family whose favorite food is crustaceans . the have grinding plates instead of fang teeth so they are not equiped to catch fish .
also many members of the gymnothorax family stay small with some staying under a foot in length .
just remember that any crustaseans in the tank will probably be eatin .
