agressinve fowlr stocking opinions

going to be setting up a 65gal fowlr in the near future. going to be using a css65 protein skimmer, probably quite a bit of br/lr. whats the preferred substrate for fowlr tanks? dsb? ssb? cc? kinda scared because ive found fish to be quite a bit harder than corals to keep healthy and happy.

as far as fish im putting in a radiata lion. then im thinking a clown trigger, and harlequin tusk wrasse. possibly a snowflake eel. then if that all works out id like a niger, or humu trigger too. as far as the first 3, the lion will be going in first, and my lfs has a small harlequin, so hell probably be second. then im thinking get the clown trigger as small as i can get. what do u guys think? should that be able to work?

i would go with a bigger skimmer, i have the same skimmer and it's a little underpowered on my 55g. might wanna try a bb tank because all those fish are messy eaters and you will have to remove uneaten food (and poop)unless you have a really hardy clean up crew that can survive with them. would be a hypocrit if i said that was alot of fish for that tank, but be prepared to do lots of water changes to keep up.

Go with the CSS 125 or maybe even the 220. If you have ever seen a clown trigger poop then you'll know why.

im definately not opposed to a bb tank. and yea im ready for the skimmer to not be that great lol. im mainly concerned about the fish themselves killing eachother.

I think the trigger and lion would be ok as long as they stay well fed. Most lions won't mess with anything they can't eat.

65g seems way to small for all those big fish Max size on the clown trigger is 20"

I agree on that tank being small for the triggers, those fish do best in large tanks and will not be happy in a 65 gallon tank and water quality will be very hard to maintain.

i would say, go with the Radiata and a zebra moray and call it good. that tank is way to small for the fish you have listed. the tusk would fill the entire tank when it gets bigger.

bb tank is a bare bottom without sand or substrate. the size of the skimmer would depend on what you decide you want to keep, your budget, and how clean you want to keep you water or how much you want to do waterchanges.

skimmers remove wastes. these wastes have been given the label protein.

skimmers remove plankton, fish poo, left over food, and anything else that is in the water column that sticks to bubbles. all of these items contain phosphates. this is what you ultimately want to remove.

I think a css65 would be perfect for that tank. I have the same one on my 90g with a 10g sump, works great. Maybe only one trigger for that tank. Probably best to go with the niger.
