140g stock list

Hello, my name is Marcus. I'm from Sweden and I'm setting up my first saltwater tank. I have always liked fish with personality and I fell in love with a picasso trigger in a fish store while on vacation this summer.

I have sold off all my chichlids from my ~5' ~140g tank and spent a load of cash on pumps and a skimmer. I will be drilling it soon..

I have started to think about stocking and what I should have besides the trigger. I like resonably hardy fishes with lots of personality. From looking in my LFS and online I have found these:

3-4 Damsels for some extra color, not shure which ones.

1 Sixline Wrasse, maybe too not tough enough for the damsels and trigger? Should be added first? Or maybe later when the tank is more established?

1 Rabbitfish, again I haven't decided on exact species. Since I can't have much of an invert cleanup crew with the trigger I thought one of these could help by eating algae.

1 Picasso trigger, obviously

Is this list doable or a potential disaster? Or are there any better suggestions?

I don't see any reason why those fish will not co-exist. you are wise to question the sixline in that it will thrive moreso in an established LR based system, more food sources. Unless you get a terribly aggressive individual (which would be more unlucky than faulty planning in this case) your picasso should not bother the 6-line. They are small and fast - a good combination for evasion.

damselfishes are fine generally speaking, but the best use for them in a FO tank is they are wonderful at eating up stray bits of food that larger fishes scatter about - they should never need to be fed directly.

what other fish are you thinking of? teh harlequin tusk is a great wrasse - no need for a deep sandbed for him either - they don't bury. um... what else? a nice tang would probably do well, dwarf angels, all kinds of things.

good luck!

Thanks!

I have been thinking about having a bigger, more aggressive wrasse instead of the sixline. It seems like the Thalassoma species don't need a DSB? I don't know if I can get one here in Sweden though, probably with a little patience and a large diesel budget.

I want to keep the fish load moderate on this tank, so I think these will do for now. But they have some very nice harlequin tusks in my LFS. I heard that they are better att coexisting with other wrasses than most.

Welcome to TRT!!

it will be a good idea to either add the trigger last after the other fish have had time to get established and healthy, or get a very small one that will grow up used to the critters already in the tank.

Thanks Geoff!

I think the damsels will go in first, after the tank has been cycled of course.

Then maybe the rabbit or some wrasse, depending on if there is alage for the rabbit to eat. They have a Thalassoma lucasanum or mexican rainbow wrasse in my LFS. Its female colored now but looks amazing in pictures when its older.

I dont know what size picasso I could get, the only one I have seen was in Stockholm and that one was about 2". Stockholm is a 3 hour drive from me.

larger is better, they are fairly slow growers and also fragile at that size - so finding a solid 3-4" incher would probably make you happier. in my experience anyway, but I've kept alot of triggers over the years and they are not as bulletproof as is generally thought, especially not as juveniles.
