Yellow Tang/Clown Tang compatibility
Does anyone out there house a yellow tang with a clown tang? I have a 4" yellow tang in my 125 gallon tank and would like to add a smaller (3") clown tank. I know clowns are aggressive but I thought if I get one that is smaller than my yellow tang, they may be compatible. Any feedback from experience would be appreciated!

as it gets larger it will more than likely become the aggresive dominating fish ! so if you go into it with knowing one of the two may have to be removed than give it a try ! you never know they may end up not bothering each other ! the clown tangs are one busy fish ...
oh ! as far as experiance with them , yes i had the two together , but in a tank that was too small for them , so yes the clown tang had to be removed .

its just sounds troublesome to me...but I have successfully done things I was told I could not do.
Maybe if you introduce and observe. Then before either gets the upperhand...re arrange your aquascape...and do this periodicly, they may become pre occupied and learn to live together.
........Or you will have carnage. Good luck

Hi there,
I recently added a 2/12 inch clown along with my existing 3/12 inch yellow tang and they dont bother each other, not yet anyway as its still early days. If you like i'll keep you informed. Oh by the way i also have a bristle tooth which i am considering taking out as he continues to bother my clown tang. The only thing i am concerned about is this so called internal parrasite which these clowns are supposed to have which inevitably results in his death, do you know anything about this?
Cheers,
Hopefull marine keeper.

Welcome to TRT!!!
yea, i lost 3 clown tangs to this internal parasite. i have tried overdosing the tank with metronidazole to no avail.

Internal parasite or is it a case of a fish not being suitable for home aquaria?
I say the later. Thousands of these fish are sold every year and I would say 90% die within the first month either due to being doomed right from the get go due to improper collection and handling or not being placed in an appropriate tank.
Clown Tangs have similar husbandry requirements as Achilles in that they really need to be kept in very large tanks with a large amount of swimming space, extremely high flow, and higher than normal oxygen levels. They should be QT'ed and medicated for pretty much every pathogen for a few weeks before they are placed in the display tank. Dumping them right in to a tank already stocked with other tangs is pretty much a death sentence. Sorry for be a downer.

I have a scopas and a clown tang in the same tank together. They seem to get along pretty well.
