yellow "coris" wrasse

Can these guys be kept in pairs or small groups or are they best kept one to a system?

Halichoeres chrysus just to clarify what fish I mean aka the Golden or Canary wrasse.

thanks!

According to Scott W. Michael Marine Fishes 500+

"Attractive addition to a larger reef tank when kept in aggregations of 4-5 individuals. It is non aggressive and can be housed with docile species, such as leopard wrasses, flasher wrasses, firefishes, and razor gobies."

Here is my two new additions to my sps tank...........

Geoff made me do it on the coris. : )

I gotta say its a really awesome fish.......cooler than i expected him to be. I got him primarily for functional reasons, but he is actually a gorgeous fish. He did kill my little psuedo i believe. I cant prove it but the psuedo kind of deserved it. The coris is a good 3" long and the psuedo was about 1". The psuedo wouldnt let him be and finally the psuedo disappeared within 48 hours..........im pretty sure the coris got sick of it and finally just took him out. What do you think about that theory Geoff.....or anybody??? Yay or nay??? You think the psuedo just dies on his own??

I do have a carpenters flasher in there as well......all introduced at the same time and the psuedo never messed with the carpenters.....i dont think he liked the coris becasue of the color maybe

Here is a pic of the coris, the carpenters and the RIP psuedo.

it would surprise me if it killed the psuedo. expecially that psuedo, them are some mean little buggers.

1" is pretty small for a psuedo. i would put guesses on starfish, jumping, and sump ride.

I have no starfish, he cant jump nor could he make it down to the sump past my coast to coast overflow teeth.

I dont deny that he may have just simply died though. The way my rock is lifted and the flow through the reef it does surprise me i never found any parts of him nor did my skimmer go nuts ever. I doono. Dead soldier regardless.

Must have sand.

One, three, or more. Do not do pairs! They like harems, but must have some form of aragonite sand. At our store here I put them in 6-10 per tank. Very gregarious fishes and active. Also the more fishes in the tank the less they hide when you first put them in the tank. A warning though, they are known carpet surfers. So tops are a good idea for the first few weeks.

i have had no problems keeping wrasses in a BB tank. i used to keep a yellow coris wrasse for pyramid control in my 125g BB tank. i would still have it now if i did not have to get rid of it when we moved to Ireland. right now i have a red fairy wrasse in my BB tank and it is doing just fine. there are very few critters that absolutely need a sand bed to live. the wrasses will just find a nice nook in the rocks to sleep at night.

BTW-not all reefs have sand.
