What is wrong with our foxface???
We got a foxface last Tuesday and we were told that it would turn very dark when stressed. It was almost black when we first put it in the tank. He has occasionally gotten some yellow on him but for the most part he stays very dark and still and kind of blends in with the rock. He darts out once in a while but goes right back behind the rocks again. I have not seen him eat very much. He sometimes changes which rock he hides by but he seems afraid of this own shadow all of the time. Is this normal for a foxface?

We have a 6 line wrasse, a cleaner wrasse, a cleaner shrimp, a boxer shrimp, a green serpent star, several hermit crabs and snails, a clown and his anenome, and a few soft corals.

Does the clown chase or harrass the Fox Face

No, the clown hardly ever leaves the anenome.

Seems pretty normal, give him a couple more weeks. Mine eats everything, and I imagine yours will get there eventually.

pin some Nori to the side of the tank and see if that will entice him out more. Mine is becoming pretty trusting now after a couple of weeks. He still has a black strip at the top of his body but the rest is yellow.

Update:
well he is out and about this morning looking for breakfast. His color has returned to yellow and he seems fine. On a side note. he seems to be trying to attract the cleaner wrasse to him, but the wrasse will have nothing to do with him. Could this be because of his venomous spine?

No, probably not. Glad to hear he is doing better!

Mine did the same thing. My lfs man said they are social fish; they're happier with a buddy. Mine improved when the niger let him follow around and he really got happy when the naso went in. He loves the naso! Follows her everywhere and he's bright yellow again!

Funny, mine has been hanging out with my combtooth blenny, He even taught the Blenny to eat the Nori, I had tried feeding it to the blenny in the past and it had no interest. The foxface ate it right away and then the combtooth started.
