what are these...?

Hi All,
While I was looking for my 2 little blue legged hermits this morning, I fixed my eyes on this tiny (1-3 mm size) white thing attached to the glass of the pod. I thought it was just the one until I looked further and noticed they were almost too many to count...1 then 3 then 6 and 9.... Now that I have noticed the one, It seems like there are almost 100 of them all over the inside of the glass.
They look like a tiny snow flake and like I said, aprox. 1-3 mm in size.
My guess is that they are a star fish of some kind or perhaps a plankton of sorts???

That is EXACTLY what they look like.. are these a pest or something to be delt with (eliminated)

My understanding is that they are fairly common in younger tanks and eventually go away on their own, die off as the tank gets more established I assume. AFAIK they don't hurt anything at all.
