Weird clown...

My clown fish decides he wants to act weird when i shut off the lights for the night. He will go to the top of the tank and almost swim on his side. he says up there on his side and barely swims...to the point where he gets sucked into the filter grate on my JBJ nano cube. He can get off the grate just fine. The second i turn on the lights though he just stops and returns to acting like a normal fish swimming around the tank. Does anyone know what he is doing or have a similar problem?

My tomato clown does the same thing. Mine doesn't get sucked into the filter though. Maybe they are afraid of the dark and think they see a friend in their reflection

Swimming is hard work!

Mine has done that for years. No idea why, though.

Clowns are funny, no pun intended - I have two true perculas and one very large maroon in the same tank. When the night lunar lights come on, the two perculas float at the top of the tank on their sides, they look dead. The maroon will go to the bottom and mush around in the corals. Must be defensive behavior, but you're right, it is strange! I have had them for over five years and they are healthy/fine......
