The People Vs The Yellow Tang

The Oldest fish I have is my yellow tang
It has survived black ick and a velvet outbreak.
It was actually in my sump for one month prior to my quarantine.
I put him in my sump because he was getting to aggresive
So he has been out of my display tank since 0ctober of 07.
Well a quarantine and 3 months later My new tank has a Healthy Powder brown tang and a foxface.
They have been in the tank for 1 month
Well yesturday I decided to give my favorite yellow tang another shot and i put him in the display during lights out.
Today (24 hours later)he is starting to BUlly my Powder brown and foxface.
I put a strip of nori on a clip and my yellow tang doesnt even like The other fish to eat it.

tank 110gallon 40gallon sump

I have a decision to make

1) Is it time to give up on my yellow BOSSY TANG? (Life in SUmp without parole)
2) Or Do I need to give it some time for a Social hierarchy to become exstablished?
3) Or do I need to trade him in for the pretty atlantic Blue tang I saw at my LFS today

The sump is wrong, the fish is only doing whats Natural to him, I say keep him and let him have domain over your tank, JMO

I agree that sump for life violates the 4th reefing amendment on cruel (though quite usual) punishment. I assume the sump has baffles ect, so the actual swim volume for the YT is even less than 40 (which would sic the tang police on you in a minute). So I vote for option 2 or 3 depending on which you like better, the yt or the PB and Atl Blue (hung jury). I'm no huge fan of yellow tangs, but there is something to be said for loyalty. Good luck deciding.

I don't like the sump idea, I feel bad enough have a saddleback clown in a 20 gallon frag tank, since she is pretty big but she was mean....I would vote for 2 or 3 but don't want to be the deciding factor in your decision....

The Oldest fish I have is my yellow tang
But he's all snarl and bite and fang
It has survived black ick and a velvet outbreak
But now I'd like to make him fish-bake
It was actually in my sump for one month prior to my quarantine
But the people here all said I was mean
I put him in my sump because he was getting to aggresive
But my tactics were a bit suppresive
So he has been out of my display tank since 0ctober of 07.
But he still aint in fish heaven
Well a quarantine and 3 months later
My wallet is but just a crater
My new tank has a Healthy Powder brown tang and a foxface
They'll put that nasty Tang in its place
They have been in the tank for 1 month
I still dont have a coelacanth
Well yesterday I decided to give my favorite yellow tang another shot and i put him in the display during lights out
And soon my other fish would pout
Today (24 hours later)he is starting to BUlly my Powder brown and foxface
So much for putting him in his place
I put a strip of nori on a clip and my yellow tang doesnt even like The other fish to eat it
I think I'll get a stick and beat it

See, now its a work of art

Id trade him in. Let someone else use the guy in their display tank. Or get rid of the powder brown, and let the yellow stay. Any choice is a good one, except for the sump.

interesting...I always thought powder browns and blues were more aggressive than yellows and once the doral spines of the foxface come out, that should have been an immediate warning. If your yellow is really that aggressive...well, I understand your loyalty and all but that's the nature of YT's. Besides, 110 gallons? That is a big tank! I say, put him back in the main display; usually bullying is a very short ordeal anyway.

Personally.....I really think there is something to be said for loyalty. Thats not to say I havent made some decisions that completely went against this, but part of me regrets every one.

Sump is out of the question. Give him away if you must
