The Coral Banded Shrimp Must DIE
Okay... I'm OVER it!
My wife scared the new rabbit face and the coral shrimp nabbed it...
The shrimp has got to go... even if it kills the other two cleaner shrimp... is there a "shrimp-be-gone" product?
Short of taking down the entire system and starting over, how do I catch this mother-chicken and get him the hey-ell outta my tank?!?!?!?!??
If I gotta nuke, I'll nuke.... maybe I need to get a stick and start poking the sea apple until he bombs the tank.
I am dead serious... this shrimp's gotta go!
Ideas?

I just missed the opportunity to catch the guy.... he got on top of the live rock and I went in with net behind him and bladeless scaper stick in my other hand...
Little freak is QUICK, but I just about had him a few times... running for his life to say the least.
the last I saw of him, he darted under a large column of chulerpa I have in the back corner... I pressed it down pretty good...
Maybe he'll stay out of sight for a few days.

He didn't eat the foxface... but he did pinch in and eat whatever was on his claw... left a little white mark and I am none too pleased...
I have seen him eat a royal grama... one that I didn't know was dead until he was chomping on it like a fish stick.
So.... red bug will wipe him out... along with the two cleaner shrimp, four (?) hermit crabs...
will it hurt the snails, anemone, clown fish, foxface, chulerpa, live rock, feather dusters, new feather-duster-like-thingys, ornamental cone snails, etc....? Or just the shrimp and crabs?
(yes... I'm doing the math)
I guess there would have to be a pretty good water change and two-week fallowing process before I put in any more shellfish, huh?
Thanks!

I got a snail that will take it out! No I'm not kidding! I really never had a problem with mine, sure he'd nip if the fish came to close but hey that's natural and they learned to leave him alone. Mine would eat out of my hand so getting him was never a problem.
Something to try. Hold feeding, in a few days put some shrimp in the net, when he comes to eat cover the net and pull him out.

No, the redbug treatment (it's a dog heartworm medicine called Interceptor) will not hurt anything in the tank other than crustaceans so long as you follow the procedures. There is a sticky about redbugs in the SPS Forum here at TRT. Go check it out.

Thanks for the heads up!
Jena, does the snail have a license to hunt?
Actually, that's not important.... I'll deputize him!!!
Regarding going with chemical warfare...
If I remove my two cleaner shrimp before using interceptor to kill off a coral banded shrimp, when would it be safe for me to put them back in?

Most reports imply that, if you follow the dosing recommendations, it's safe to put crustaceans back into the tank after the 25% water change. But if you're removing the cleaner shrimp, why not just catch the coral banded shrimp instead?

What kind of trap would y'all recommend?

Chris, that's a good question about catching the coral banded....
The cleaners will be a lot easier to catch, as they will actually swim up to my hand and I could probably get them in one swipe of the net or some other container...
The coral guy though has learned to avoid me... He knows that the "big black stick fish" (the scraper with blade removed) is not afraid of him and can go after him very quickly... but he also knows that it requires the big humanfish to go after him.
As soon as he sees the stick go into the water, he darts off.

Dang that sucks. My coral banded shrimp is a great occupant. He will occassionally raise his claws at my foxface but it is obvious that it is defensive in nature. Other than that he is perfectly peaceful.
