I have 2 cleaners and 2 peppermints.

Having more than one cleaner shrimp is nice because ANY 2 together will make babies...... Free fish food.

They are hermaphrodites.

I have also read that one shrimp can reproduce for many months after being isolated. Supposedly they can store sperm in the tail and use when they need it.

Um hermaphodite would mean both sex parts, morphadite means they switch sex... The article I read said they switch sex.

I dunno tho...

I have a 30 gallon reef and just got my first cleaner shrimp (I think pacific cleaner). We love this guy cause he is crazy and has lots of personality. Likes to swim upside down below surface of water and horde all the fish food. He seems to rule the tank though. Not at all aggressive but claims all the spots for himself. Would another cleaner be a bad idea in this size tank? Also, i only have 1 aiptasia. Should I get a peppermint just for protection or would he starve?

A peppermint won't stave, he will scavange the tank and eat anything left behind. They are a nice addition as a clean up crew. If they eat aiptasia it is just a real nice bonus for you. However they can have a fairly short life cycle.

How long is "short"? Six months, a year?
