Scooter Blenny
Hello, I was just wondering if it is normal for the scooter blenny to hide completely in the sand?
Thanks

when I had one it did that. I think it is a protection thing at night, but he would always be out and about soon after lights were on. I would love another now that I know more about them but the only tank that could support it is a predator reef and he'd be fish food. Oh and Welcome to TRT!

Welcome to TRT! Don't worry that's normal, but good question. You should cover tthe top of the tank with eggcrate or something so no one does jump out.

Mine never did that, but it was coarse aragonite sand, and the tank had a lot of LR crevices to hide.

Welcome indeed! Just to be clear, we are talking about the scooter blenny that isn't really a blenny, right? Synchiropus ocellatus? I'm asking because I've seen too many people get into trouble with a fish like this that is actually a lot more damanding than your typical blenny (the cynic would say that's why it is often sold as such).

Yep, they hide in the sand at night for protection and turn almost white in color. If you have no sand (like my tank), they hide under some live rock and blend their color with it to camouflage themselves. Very cool fish. My SBs eat frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp (rarely feed it), and pods of course.
