how much money do you have?

there is a golden moray that grows to a max length of about 7". even that is a bit big for a 10g tank, but it is close.

they go for about $200-$300 a piece though. not exactly sure if it is a rariety thing, a difficulty in collection thing, or just a demand thing, but that is what they go for. i am thinking it is a collection thing. they are secretive in the LR.

Pballer my banded eel is doing well in my 10 gallon tank. He is about 12 inches and he will grow bigger but just slow and may not grow bigger then the tank he is in. I plan on getting a 30 gallon tank for him or I may purchase a 90 gallon and put him in there depends on $$$$. My last eel was a ribbon eel and he decided to jump to his death a few weeks ago. They are good escape artist. I thought I had my tank covered well but I had a 2"x1" gap near my filter and he made the jump. One question to ask and also see at the LFS is what they eat and watch them being fed. My last eel they stated ate frozen krill....well it didn't only live food and what a pain! This time I asked and made then feed the eel and he ate frozen krill !!! and this is awesome!! here are some pics of my last and new eel. I am glad I purchased an eel no regrets!

eels grow very fast. there are not any that can live in a 10g for extended periods of time except for the one i mentioned above. the Gymnothorax melatremus is so far the smallest species of eel that is available.

reef safe is totally based on your definition. will it hurt corals no, will it eat small fish, maybe, will it eat small crustaceans, yes. so pick your reef safe definition.

yes, depending on the size of the eel. eels tend to prefer either fish or crustaceans. you choose which "reef" safe definition. there are not any algae eating eels.
