purple anenome

I was just wondering how much they eat and where they should go in the tank. It was kinda wierd because it went to the bottom in the corner completely out of the current and not close to the lights I thought they would stay in those areas more than not, is it just what they do or is it not doing so well??
46g tank w/ 4.17 W/g power compact lighting
feeding mysis and brine shrimp twice a day for two days

Needs bigger food like raw shrimp or silversides cut up every 3 days or so. If you just added it it is trying to adapt to the tank. Soon it will start exploring and find the place it likes (if your lucky). Could you be more specific with lighting, we don't really go by the watts per gallon rule anymore.

192 Watt Power compact, coralife 36" w/ lunar lights. The anenome had some black balls in its tentacles this morning, looked like anenome poop to me so I used my sea squirt to get it out.

Ideally they need mh, with the pc's you will definately want to suppliment it's feeding. Do you have any corals? The only thing to worry about is it stinging them while looking for its happy place. He will probably keep moving until he gets comfortable it's in their nature. My haitian attached to a rock near the bottom and stayed their a couple of days. I also have inadequate lighting so I moved the entire rock to the top of the tank and he has stayed put since.

How long did you acclimate? IMO anemone's need perfect water conditions. They don't deal well with changes so you have to be careful to make sure water changes are close to existing salinity. Can you possibly post a pic? Some will split due to stress as well as just normal growth response. Also did you give it whole silversides or two pieces of a silverside?

BTW I am by no means an expert. If you post your question in the general section you will get many more responses and from a lot more experienced reefers than me.

you seem to be doing fine Jena.

Tony- is there anyway you can post a pic of the anemone? there is a chance it could be splitting, but a pic would really help here.

I was out of town for a couple days but everything is still alive, my tank conditions have remained fairly constant, around 1.024sg and amonia/nitrate almost zero. I got the anenome from a LFS and it was under t5 lights, my ph is about 8.2 during the day and 8.0-8.1 at night. I have been feeding it whole silversides. I really appreciate your guys' input it is at the least consoling for a broke college kid staring at 100 dollars of waiting tables teatering on life and death
Tony

PS I had a false percula clown and it has disappeared any suggestions on how that could happen?

If it's not on the floor then the anemone might have gotten hungry while you were gone.

Yes anemone's have been known to eat clowns. Also if you have a sump you might want to check the overflow and sump they can get in there. Cut the silversides up into smaller pieces and feed once small piece every two to three days. Any ammonia level can kill anemone if exposed long periods of time. Now the question is why is there ammonia. Sounds like the clown may have died and is in the tank somewhere and that is where the ammonia is coming from. How long has this tank been setup btw?
