not your everyday ordinary reef fish thread
this thread is about reef fish in the hobby that we don't see everyday .
so fish like yellow tangs , blue tangs , royal grammas , manderin fish , ( you get the picture ) don't count . now if its a fish that seems readily avialible , but due to cost or the feelings that they are not durable fish ( but you must have had or have success with it ) then those are most welcome . an example of a fish that is somewhat easily available but cost a lot , so you don't see it very often in peoples tanks would be a mystery wrasse (pseudocheilinus ocellatus) .if you know the scientific name post it . also if you have some comment on behavior or what its eating please post it .
o.k. i'll start . this is a honeycomb rabbitfish (siganus stellatus) . first things it did when it was put into the tank was to decimate my pink sponge population . but it is a far better grazer than my siganus doliatus.

this is my blackspot angelfish ( genichantus melanosplios) .very good fish ! very passive and eats any type of food . also grazes all day . relatively inexpensive as far as the genicanthus angels are concerned . i believe i paid 40 or 45 dollars . well spent if you want a reef safe angel .

here is another great reef angel . this is my zebra angel (genichantus caudovittatus) . it pretty much mirrors the black spot except for the fact that it cost me twice as much . where it comes from has a big impact on how much a fish is also . so two identical fish could have two completly different price tags .

I have this circus goby. Seems that only those that have them have seen them. They are very elusive. I have rarely seen mine over the last year he has been in my tank. He is obviously finding something to eat. They seem to spend all of their time in hiding and upside-down.

largest size is around 7" grown, , so you can expect it to stay smaller in a tank . both of mine seem to be slow growers .

o.k. let me try this again ! thanks kelli .
this is my vlamingii tang . i'm not part of the tang police nor have i ever played one on t.v. but this tang no matter how small when purchased should not be in anything smaller than a 4 foot tank . these tangs grow very quickly , unlike the yellow or blue tangs .probabaly at a three to one ratio as the previously mentioned tangs . they eat anything , i bet if i threw in froot loops it would eat them ( and like them to !) . it is a very passive fish that does even care when new tank mates are introduced .
mine is not a foriger like my yellow tang , rarely do i see it pick at the rocks . by the way the siganus doliatus next to it follows it around like a puppy dog !

do you think the black spot would do ok in a 55?? I was also thinking of the tominni. I'm still leaning a little more toward the tominni.

if you get the black spot small enough , say 3" it will do fine .
