Question

new yellow tang

i am new to this forum and have had fish tanks for three years but have someone else service them . one tank is a 300 gallon with cichids and the other 140 fo saltwater. i got tired of being at someone elses mercy and want to learn more because i love fish. the tank in queston in my new tank that i have been takeing care of and i love it so far but i have one worry ...
i put a 2" yellow tang in it with the two clown fish and a domino damsil. after puttiong the tang in it started showing a white strip on its side. i have never seen this befor. i also noticed that the damsil was excessively bothering the tang so i removed him after about an hour, the stripe started to subside but is this something i should worry about? i really like the tang but im worried about him. if it matters he has been eatting since i putting him in the tank with no problem. thanks for any help

Welcome to TRT,The stripe is just when they get stressed out, you will also see it when the lights go out,I wouldnt worry about it to much, just keep an eye on him
you dont want him stressed all the time by the other fish or he could catch ick.

i would just not even put the damsel back in. they will quickly get on your nerves.

how long has the tank been setup?

damsels are very mean fish. as they get bigger they get even meaner.

what size tank is it?

were you cycling the tank with the damsel, is that why it is in there? the current philosophy with setting up reef tanks is that it takes 2 months to cycle a tank properly. this is with LR only also. it is not any faster if you use fish. there are plenty of living critters in the LR to get the system started. after 2 months you can think about adding the clean up crew.

SW is a totally different ball game than FW.
