new tank fish question

I have a 120 gallon tank that has been up for about 2 months. Tank is of a tall design 48X18X32. I have 75 blue legged crabs, 2 hermits and 40 snails ( anagie?) as my clean up crew. I have about 60 pounds of live rock. My goal is to build a semi-reef on the bottom and attempt to had some coral, etc along with reef friendly fish. I have a wet/dry, cannister and Euro-reef protein skimmer and 4 X 96 watt lights.

First fish was a scooter blenny he is doing great. My second fish I believe was a mistake, a yellow tang about 3 ". Third fish was a regal tang about 1 " who is being bullied by the yellow tang and does not leave the rock caves.

I want to start adding more fish and coral and need a plan along with wondering if I should remove the yellow tang? Any ideas on the yellow tang and what fish to add?

Mixing tangs can be a crapshoot. What's going on these days with the two of them?

Yellow tangs are kind of aggressive and regals are usually not. plus you added the yellow first. plus the yellow is larger. If you have somewhere you can keep the yellow while the regal settles in it might help. I've keep those 2 fish together and was Ok but added a smaller yellow after the regal was settled in.

I have always kept many tangs together. As stated above, add more aggressive species and larger individuals last. Since you have a 120g you could add more to take the yellows focus off of the regal (many of which can be shy and hide anyway). I have had good success doing this. When I add a new tang (just added a unicorn) the more aggressive tangs usually give the newbie the business for a day or two then it finds its place on the totem pole and life goes back to normal. Good luck.

How are your tangs doing? What other fish or corals are you wanting to add? Hope all is well!

I just went through this and I have had great luck with lots of green chromis to keep my tang entertained they are not agressive qand very active. I have had my tank a few years but always allowed others to help choose my fish so I researched endlessly(THANK GOODNESS) I now have the best tank yet. Not to mention a peacefull tank. My uncle is a marine Biologist (he usually picks them) and his only suggestion on this adventure was to make sure to add some busy fish for the tang..

WELCOME TO TRT!!!
