do you have a link? i thought the main concern with these are the tail spines. i thought they contained a bacteria that causes infection, and not really a venom.

would like to know more though.

i am not finding any concrete evidence of venom in the spines of surgeonfish. i am seeing a lot of heresay and cross referencing of books without any substance to them. i am not saying they are not venomous, but so far i am putting them in the same category as tube anemones for now.

for the longest time everyone thought tube anemones were voracious fish eaters because of a reference in a book back in the 60's. in fact they are not able to eat fish at all.

I've also never heard of surgeonfish having venom, only spines. Maybe thats the sole reason they are listed?

it may not actually be a VENOM to say but rather a bacteria, ive not found any really hard evidence of it either, but one scientist says...& i forget where i read this..'' every fish they attacky usually dies, but no toxins can be found in the anatomy of the fish.''

so i dont know, just thought someone else might.lol
