my adorable little fish: scooter blenny

So, was at petco last weekend and fell in love with this little (1.5 maybe) inch long scooter blenny, and bought him, he's ADORABLE! and even better, he's eating pellet food already as well as picking at my live rock.

what an adorable, primetive cute little bugger!

Scooter Blennies are really cool.

I used to have a pair in my 75 and each night at lights out they would lock fins and do a little swim together toward the top of the tank. Then a quick twitch and they would separate and float back down to the bottom. When the male got sick the female stayed right next to him for a couple of days until he passed away. I tried to replace him, but she did not like the replacement at all. Unfortunately they both expired when our air conditioner died and I haven't had the heart to look for a new pair.

Best of luck with your new little tank mate.

scooter blennies eating pellet food

I also bought a scooter blenny at petco and was wondering what kind of pellet food yours ate.I tried mysis in a glass aspirin bottle but I dont see him going in to eat it and I dont know how to keep it where I am sure he will eat it.My daughter saw it at the store so I bought it but dont have a huge tank or alot of live rock just about ten pounds.I was thinking of taking it back but my daughter will stress and I dont see alot of liverock in the stores tanks so I was wondering how to feed as the stores employees dont really have an answer about how they feed them

Congrats on your scooter purchase! I have one as well adorable as can be and about the 1.5in size! I had always wanted one and couldn't resist when I seen him at the store. He is just over a week old as I got him last Tuesday. My problem is I don't see him eating period no matter what it is pellets, brine anything! He has not touched anything so I think and I haven't seen him on my rocks either feeding unless he eats when lights are out? I dunno but he is looking skinny to me and I would hate to loose him such an adorable little creature! Any suggestions? I have heard this are hard fish to keep.

Okay, on another note...Petco carries salt fish? Hmmm, can't wiat for the new one up the road to open up! I never knew they did. I wonder why Petsmart don't carry them sometimes myself when I am there.

Scooters Are Along the same line as Mandarins They are pod eaters.
There are very little out there that will except other forms of food.
That sayed you can buy pods on line and hope to seed your tank so as to not have a problem later on.
They love a sand bed as they burry them self's at night and when scared.
Also pods love A DSB as it will help propagate them also.

they will eat zooplanton also mine dose and I have had him for about 2, 2.5 months now. I have about 100 pounds of LR in my 55g tank moving up to a 90g soon. there are copods on the live rock so stooter is happy they kind of look a bit thin on their bellies even at the store so this maybe normal for them. mine is about 2" long now but I did get him when he was about1.5" long.
