Minimum size tank for Anthias?

What is the minimum size tank that Anthias can be housed in? I know some can be housed in smaller tanks than others, but I wasn't sure which ones. I would only want one, and it would be in a 44 gallon for now, but would eventually go into a 135 gallon. (That could be 2 years or so before that happens though. Not enough room in our current house to set it up.) Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

the easier anthias need large tanks. they like to be in harems. they also need to be fed a lot since they have tiny stomachs.

the fathead anthias is more of a loner and can be in smaller tanks, but they problem with these is that they do not like a lot of light. they are deep water fish. takes them a while to get comfortable enough to eat.

if you are looking for colour and ease of care, look into the fairy/flasher wrasses. they are real easy to keep, as long as you can keep them in the tank. some come in some pretty outrageous colours.

HTH,

G~

Thanks Geoff! My interest was just sparked about the Anthias because I visited the GA Aquarium over the weekend, and those things are just so darn pretty. I'll look more into the wrasses. Are they compatible with a Neon/Arabian Dottyback? He's somewhat aggressive.

Thanks,
Brad

you would have a much better chance with a wrasse than an anthias with a dottyback in the tank. even so, it will be pretty hit or miss on whether or not the dottyback will beat up the wrasse.
