Lonely clownfish?
For my 6 month old 12g NC, I went to the LFS yesterday - 50% off all livestock sale! - and got 2 small fish. I haven't had any fish in my tank for a while since I moved a few weeks ago. I got a 3" maroon clown who is absolutely stunning and in perfect condition, and a 1" scooter blenny. Both of them are eating and doing fine, and I've had them about 24 hours.
I only have a teeny BTA for the clown and I was wondering will he do ok by himself? I don't think my tank is big enough for 2 clowns his size, but I didn't like the baby perculas they had and I've always wanted a maroon.
I don't want him to become depressed since he doesn't have a partner - should I look into getting him an anemone he can host in? or a mate? What is the best solution? (or do I even need to do anything at all?)
Any help is appreciated - thanks!

He doesn't need an anemone or a mate. And maroons get big, so I don't know if a 12g is a good choice. Hopefully others will chime in.
What is your scooter eating?
And how about a pic or two?

I think a 12 is too small. And your scooter could end up starving if your pod pop isnt good enough

Well I've seen them both eat - I have lots of pods and the blenny is also eating a lot of the algae in the tank too. I'll keep an eye on them and definitely will inquire/return them if they look like they're starving, etc.
So far they're both doing awesome, and looking great too! My maroon clown is picture perfect - great-looking fins, nice and fat, etc.
I'll definitely keep you guys posted, and hopefully I'll get some more input!

I have a scooter blenny in my tank (75 gals) and he is probably going to make it by the skin of his teeth! I thought for sure he would die of starvation he was so thin. Lately he has been looking better but it is always a concern. I do not think my scooter eats algae though. And I know you have pods now, but it is a never ending battle to keep the popuation up.

My question is, how do you know your pod population is good? And if its good, that was when there werent any inhabitants to eat the pods. Im not trying to rain on your parade. But if they were easier to keep, I think every reefer would have a mandarin. Im not sure about scooters eating algae either, they may. Are you sure its not a LMB?
I dont know, just keep an eye on him. I dont even know how you can tell if hes starving, unless he just gets skinny and sucked up.

My blenny could never survive on pods alone, there aren't enough. I know the pods are up because they are all over the glass in the morning. Doesn't happen very often anymore because they are a tasty treat for everyone! He also eats frozen.
I bought him because I thought he was a BLENNY, not a dragonette! That'll learn me

Anyway,
I'll keep an eye on the guy. And if you meant lawnmower blenny by LMB, then yes I'm sure it's not one.
Thanks for the input -

xenia,
I had a maroon clown in a 10 gallon just recently. It was an experiment on a tank that cycled in less than a week. The clownfish was doing great but believe it or not; I felt bad about putting him in there. If you really want to do something good for him, find a bigger tank for him--preferably a 30 would be great. That's what I did, I took mine out and put him in a 30. The funny thing is that the clownfish doesn't really swim all over the tank. But, it's satisfying to provide a bigger home for it.
