Lamarcks Angel Problem
I bought a Lamarcks about 6 weeks ago. Everything was good until about 4 or 5 days ago. She was eating good and wasn't shy. Then it looked like she got stuck or in a minor scuffle. A few scales looked damaged above her eyes. two days went by and one eye got cloudy. Looking earlier today, I noticed what looked to be a small hole in her eye. Now it appears she has lost the eye. The damage to the scales has healed on one side but I think she is damaging the scales on the other side by running into rocks. She still eats and swims fine.
Does this sound like it could be anything other than an injury?

is there anyway you can get a pic? if it were decompression sickness it would have shown up a bit sooner.

a hole in her eye? - that almost sounds as if it would be parasitic to me... meaning that she didn't have it when you got her, and something in the tank got to her after a few weeks. I'm not very intelligent, however, but that's my guess.
Good luck to you - I bet she'll get better about not running into things - keep us posted!

eric , sounds like mechanical damage , maybe after a little scuffle . as long as its eating well and acting o.k. then theres not much to do . by the way i have seen a one eyed yellow tang do very well . its eye was completely missing , it didn't look very pretty but other than that it was fine , so don't give up hope .

I didn't get a chance for a pic last night. Water change and then I fell asleep. I'll try tonight. Eye did look better. Not sure if he will loose it or not now. I did watch him swim into my purple tang twice last night. It was kind of humorous. I know, bad me!

What causes popeye? I read it somewhere but can't think of what it is? I'm pretty positive that is not what is going on here.

with these fish bad decompression can cause popeye. also acclimating to quickly can can cause popeye. this usually shows up within the first week of getting the fish though.
