jawfish trouble

I just purchased a new pearly jawfish for my new reef tank from my LFS. He along with 2 clown gobies are the only fish in the tank. He has been in the tank for just over 2 days and has yet to build a home or eat but he was eatting at the fish store. I wanted to make sure this was normal behaviour for a new fish in the tank. I have been adding live rock to the tank so I assume his lack of activity was because of all the movement in the tank. I built him a home out of PVC pipe and he also has a barnacle availible for him to use. I currently have a 2 inch sand bed (although I am in the process of increasing this to about 3 inches) of crushed coral and small pieces of rock. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make him less stressed and get him to eat?

What food have you tried? I just bought a Jawfish and he loves the frozen mysis and brine. Are the clown gobies bothering him?

right now i am feeding him brine (which is what he was eatting at the store). The clown gobies stay at the very top of the tank, the only thing that has taken to living near his home is a little hermit crab.

Maybe if you make him a little cave from crushed coral with a shell or rock on top, he'll feel more comfortable.

Thanks for your help! I just added some more sand this morning and now my little guy is swimming around and eatting the brine - i guess he decided he liked his new home! Thanks again!

No problem, good luck!

Thankfully mine is excavating the only bottom rock in the tank that isn't holding up other rocks, unfortunately it's in the absolute back of the tank against the overflow. As soon as he's more comfortable, I may try to fill in his hole in an attempt to bring him up front.
