I just got a lion fish straight from the beach, but ever since it got in my tank its always at the bottom with its head down near the live rock. Can someone please tell me if this is normal or not? thanks!

is he eating? that is the most important thing, if he is then do not worry about it. my lion fish does lots of crazy things too, sometimes i wonder if he is normal or not!!!! like eating upside down.i did teach him to eat in a net, because when he goes in my display tank,my triggers will not give him a chance to eat. so now he eats in the net,he is very cute.
another possibility is if your lighting system is too strong. they do not like strong lighting, but if you acclimate them to the light gradually, then they will get used to it. somehow i do not think this is it,but i thought to mention it anyway. good luck. jakleen

They make nets that are in the 5-6" range that use the same netting as the brine shrimp nets. They will not get stuck in those. I use them for my lionfish, rabbitfish, etc. I would not suggest touching them even with gloves.

thanks jackleen! I haven't seen it eating yet. We tried putting some shrimps infront of it but it just ignored the shrimps.

I used to work at a fish store and the best method i found to catch large lionfish was to submerge a large specimen container, and corral the lion in with a net, then simply lift out the container. It is pretty simple since they are relatively slow fish, and you avoid getting urself nicked and avoid tangling up the lions delicate finnage
