help splitting

sorry i don't know exactly which place to put this but need help. My small red sea star is splitting down the middle, mum dropped a feeding dish on its leg and it fell off now its halving itself I don't know if this is normal but its all white like scar tissue. Please help before mum goes psycho and takes it out of the tank if it doesn't need to be

Sorry I didn't get back earlier been working on a car.....Ahhh the starfish actually died. I thought it was going to make 2 stars but mmm unfortantlly we had a death.
