Green Chromis Damsel

Hello, I just bought a Green Chromis Damsel could anyone tell me why it looks darker ar time and lighter other times? It is a nice fish I just wonder if something is wrong as it seems to change color. Thank you for any feed back.

Actually, I have read from multiple sources that almost all tropical fish have some basic color change ability. Color change can also occur based on diet as well. This particular instance sounds like mood change causing coloration change. Stress, sleeping patterns, etc can all cause color change to varying degrees.

I had blue chromis with black edging that color changed as well depending on what they were doing and they lived happy and disease free until a power outage wiped my tank out.

Welcome to TRT!!

have you thought about getting a friend for it? they tend to be shoaling fish. unlike most of the damsels. part of the reason these are considered OK to be kept in a tank with other tankmates.

My chromis all change colors all the time. It in my opinion may be a form of communication but really I do not know. It is very cool though!

as a general rule, keep and odd # os chromis. I have read that you get the most out of them that way. They change color naturally. Could be some stress related issues, but they can change, especially the green ones. I have 3 blue

I also think it depends on how the light hits them. Mine seem really green one moment, then more blue the next. They are cuteis, aren't they?
