Question

Goby System?

I'm trying to form a new stocking plan for my 29 gallon biocube. The only thing that made it through the velvet outbreak was a false perc clown. The tank has been fallow for a month and 1/2 and I have another month and 1/2 to go. I'd like to try for a goby system + the clown. I have a yellow clown goby already and love him. (he is in a pico) I would like to stick with the smaller gobies...I'm also not sure about keeping a pistol shrimp in my tank. I have a pom pom crab and want to add another pom pom and maybe a porcelain crab.

Wish list of gobies:
clown goby
green banded goby
hector's goby
twin spot gobie
trimma
eviota

Is there a goby that will spend time in the water column? Is any of this doable?

Thanks....

My Engineer goby comes out of his burrow and swims from time to time...but due to how big they get don't think it will be suitable for you 29g.

I've had one in a 30 gallon for five years now with no problems.

So you think a engineer goby will be fine for a 29g reef? What was the size of the goby at that time?

How does this sound for a potential stocking list:

Clown fish (maybe a pair?)
Clown goby pair
Green Banded goby
Yasha
trimma

I'd make sure that they don't fight with like species. I know that firefish ( part of teh gobie family) can beat the tar out of each other in a tank... so while I am not sure about the gobies you mentioned you would be wise to research if the ones you are looking at are likely to fight or not.

Also in a 29 gallon I would reccomend 3-4 fish, maybe 5 if they are all clown and Yasha sized, but even then I am not sure. - you have to watch that you don't over stock the tank.

All the gobies I listed are from a different genus and listed as peaceful.

The clown gobies are 1.5-2" (perch on rocks and stuff)
The Greenbanded, Elacatinus multifasciatum, is a cleaner goby and its under 2" (in the water column and perchs)
The yasha, Stonogobiops yasha, 2-3" (sandbed/rocks)
The trimma, trimma sp., (I haven't figured out more than that) is 1" (water column)

Here is my tank, so you can see the specs...
