Fish Options with Worm Rock

I currently have a 24 gallon Aquapod with the 150w HQI lighting (plan to upgrade to a 90-120 in <4mo). One of my favorite pieces is a Christmas tree worm rock that I have had for 6+ months and it just keeps looking better the longer I have it. I wanted to know what fish that I need to avoid so I can keep these beautiful worms. One LFS tells me no wrasses and another tells me that they wouldn't be a problem.

Current inhabitants include: an Ocellaris Clown hosting in a BTA, many various corals, Blueleg hermits, peppermint shrimp, and a few different types of snails. I plan to house a clam or two in the future larger tank.

Thanks in advance.

Watch Everybody...

Hi Miklada,

Fairy wrasses might do fine, gobies and blennies probably fab, along with a jawfish? Remember though, any fish can take a mind to go after a worm. I have a maroon clown that was very happy in her BTA for six months, but then I guess the feather duster next door started to mouth off and she took offense, and well... the rest is a Macy Gray album.

Good luck, I would love to add a Christmas tree worm rock to my collection, but it always seems like the rocks & worms I see locally are pretty poor examples of what I see diving.

Mine has been fine with 6line wrasse and cleaner wrasse. I had a scotts fairy wrasse too but it jumped afer about a week - I didn't have it long but while I did I never saw it mess with the worms.
No butterfly fish though - they will stick those long snoutlike mouths in and try to get the worms out of their holes...I had a cooperband that tried and I thought he had eatten them all but once I got rid of him the worms came back out.
