First fish help

I will be ready (assuming all goes to plan) for my first fish in about a month and im just starting to weigh my options

I need a beginners fish that can go a week at a time with just flake/pellet food and is colourful as the tank will be FOWLR at the moment.

Any ideas (I was thinking a pair of common clowns but thought i might wait until i get something for them to spawn in)

Otherwise maybe an Emperor Angel (but the literature ive read on these says beginners should steer clear of these for the first couple of years.

I was also looking at a Banded Angel

Can anyone give me some good ideas and also advise me if any of the above would be a really bad idea

Thanks again

Clown fish are great beginner fish,I just love the percs,I would wait on the angel till the tank is way more mature and established

firefish are also a great beginner fish. they need a good top on the tank though. they are very accomplished jumpers.

spawning clowns is a bit more difficult than just adding an anemone ( i am guessing this is what you were hinting at). the care for the anemone is a lot more difficult than keeping the clowns. clowns also do not need anemone's. they can be quite happy hosting in a power head.

I love it!!!!

Thankyou Casey and Geoff and Geoff you're on the money with the anenome comment (just not too sure i want an anenome in a small 50Gal tank but will work that out further down the track

I think Clown fish it is - I may even look at a soft coral at the easy end of the spectrum just to give them something.

I came into this hobby knowing id have to spend money so I have a calcium reactor w/ auto PH control - good metal halides / a chiller / a good quality protein skimmer and have just finished an auto trace element doser so i figure i've given myself a fighting chance.

Cheers again guys
