Epileptic clowns?
Hello! I have 2 ocelaris clowns, young that have seemed pretty happy in my 30 gallon. Added them about 2 weeks ago. They do the typical clown "dance" swimming together kind of erratically in the tank. Today after a water change I noticed what was to me disturbing behavior. One of the clowns would shake, more like shiver as if having a siezure. He (or she) would shiver, then go back to swimming. Saw it several times. Particularly under a rock outcropping they like to hang under. Normal behavior? Perams are fine, just hope I didn't shock them with water change. Hope description isn't too vague, no way I could film it. Best description is a siezure under water. Thanks!

Perfectly normal pairing behavior i believe, clowns will do some VERY wierd things, my clown eats out of my hand, sleeps with his head in the sand in a corner, smack the sand with his tail to clean his territory and lots of other wierd stuff, they are fun to watch.

Yes, the one that is doing the shake will likely be the male and the other will start ot grow quite rapidly. It's also known as the dont kill me dance

I was going to say, that my male does the same thing. He has this one particular spot that he always goes to and goes mental. Sometime the larger one joins him in that spot and shakes also.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad to here this is normal behavior as these guys are my fav second to my 6 line. I notice already that the non epileptic fish is becoming larger and possibly more dominant. Any possibility of these mating? I thought that was next to impossible in a home aquarium.

Yeah, they will mate, but it may be a couple years before they do so. It's not next to impossible as it happens readily and frequently.

what happens to all the fry if you don't have them in a special tank - do they all end up as snacks...? ... but I also don't know what I'd do with, like, 20 clownfish

My clown is the same, except he/she doesn't have a mate. I know I freaked out when I seen it for the first time
