Dead Lawnmower-HELP

I've had my lawnmower blenny for a while in my 20 gal tank with no problems. I didn't change anything except for replacing my old HOB airstone driven skimmer with the Red Sea Venturi driven HOB skimmer. I did notice that I have almost no hair algae but I figured with my feeding and even placing some algae in an algae magnet, I wouldn't have problems with my blenny. I did notice that he was getting skinny over the past 2 weeks and did feed more.

Was it the loss of hair algae that killed my blenny? Can anyone give me any ideas or answers? Thanks in advance

Mike

LMBs eat film algae, and that's about it, ime. More often than not there isn't enough natural algae in the tank to sustain them, so they need to eat prepared foods to survive. Was he eating prepared foods? How long have you had him?

Yup, he was competing with your snails. Your tank was prolly just too small for him.

i agree, they tend to eat diatomic algae more than the other types of algae.

Yeah, I was feeding the tank prepared foods...frozen brine and algae. I had the blenny for several months...now that you guys mentioned it...I think he was competing with the snails...I added snails to the tank about 2 months ago. I forgot about that. He was very active and bold too.

I feel really bad about him...he was my favorite fish...just noticed him getting a little skinnier and more timid. Thought I was feeding enough...
I'm gunna wait for my bigger tank build before getting another one.

Going bare bottom won't be a problem will it?

Thanks everyone,

Mike

Get him when you get you slime algae then wait to see what he does with it then add a few snails per week untill you hit the sweet spot.
