clownfish making a bubble nest lol

So by saying a "bubble nest" this is the only way I know how to explain it!

Had my tank set up for about 7-8 weeks now and my parameters are all stable and looking good, live rock is blooming with coraline algae, CUC are doing an awesome job and clownfish are eating like pigs....

I got my two little ocellaris clownfish maybe 2 weeks ago, they had paired up in the display tank at the LFS and i watched them for a while (maybe 20 minutes) before actually buying them lol

One of them (i assume is the female) has become a lot darker and larger than the little male, and I've noticed the more dominant girl occasionally nipping at the male - its nothing big sort of a "putting him in line" nip lol but they're still best of buds!

however shes started to blow bubbles along the edge of my tank (looks like a bubble nest a betta would make) just wanted to know if anyone knew what this meant? or are they just bored?

I dont have any corals in there atm, am about to go grab some later on today, but nothing too fancy

How much flow do you have in the tank? Your clown may be gasping for oxygen at the surface. What's the temperature of the tank?

yea, gasping can be caused by many issues, such as low oxygen, contaminated water, high temps, etc. This isn't good and clowns don't make bubble nests. test parameters, maybe a water change.

If those bubbles are staying at the surface like that then you don't have enough flow and its most likely gasping for air.

thanks guys!

Changed over powerhead yesterday to a sicce nano, seems to be working better, they didn't seem fatigued at all and were eating perfectly fine and were just as active as always, that's what confused me a little

all the parameters are perfect and temp is sitting at 76/77degrees, did my weekly 10-20% w/c (not running a sump or skimmer) things are looking good, occasionally she'll make a bubble or two but I think thats cos shes tryna get something off the top of the water.. its an open tank but maybe i need a cover to keep the dust off... lol

thanks for the help guys!! would have never of thought of the powerhead/flow idea
