clown compatibility?
got a little tank-raised ocellaris as a first fish in a new 90gal. he's been in there about 1-1/2 weeks, and seems to be doing great. he had been in a crowded clown tank at the lfs, and there was one larger mellanistic ocellaris chasing/beating up on all the smaller ones, so mine had a nip on his stripe just before his tail, adn another on his right pectoral fin. the spot just before his tail is no longer even visible, but his fin is still showing a bit of the injury.... we were just going to have the 1 clown, but many ppl here have suggested that our clown will be happier (and do more interesting things) if it's with a buddy. i have no intention of adding any more fish until the fin is totally healed, but when it is time for more fish, would the 2nd clown have to be another ocellaris? if not, what other spp of clown would be both hardy and compatible with my little false perc? we want to be able to easily tell them apart, so another ocellaris would only be an option if it's a diff colour morph, like mellanistic or something, but i'd prefer a diff spp if anything's compatible?

I currently have a maroon clown, a black and white and 2 ocellaris and all of them seem to get along just fine, however; I have heard that putting more than 1 clown in a tank can either stress them out or they may fight. I may have just gotten lucky with mine

You can try but most of the time it results in fighting. If you want another color get a black and white ocellaris, same fish except black instead of orange and they wont fight.

Not only a chance to fight but usually one of the last fish you put in a tank because of there aggression! You need to plan when setting up a tank,by starting with the calmest and work up to your last fish be the most aggressive!

either a black and white, another oscellaris or a percular (aka true percula). Misbarred varieties are really cute too. i have two oscellaris, one of which is a misbar (both tank raised). Yes I agree having two is much better than one, they stick together most of the time like white on rice it's so cute!

so i've heard... but i was also told the clown was one of the best first fish (both lfs and here suggested it) in a new tank (as it's cheap, hardy). we're not getting many fish (shrimp goby, blenny, royal gramma, coral beauty, purple tang, and maybe in a year or so, a mandarin) so i'm hoping that since the clown is still so little (he's only about 1-1/2" atm) that there won't be probs adding the gobies/blenny/gramma and then 2nd clown (same size) over the next few months, followed by the angel and tang....?

do your tank-raised pair with an anenome? that's something i'd like, but i ethically prefer tank-raised to wild caught, but have been told that tank raised won't do the anemone-bonding thing?
