Do you have anything that could have got them at nite? When mine sleeps .. he sort of zones out.. and if you have any larger crabs they might be able to snag him.

I lost a target a long time ago when he swallowed an air bubble ( had him for 6 months )... his butt kept floating over his head for two days.. then he passed away ....
