Can I add a Purple Tang and a Maroon Clownfish?
Current setup is 120 gal 2 X 250 MH, 260w PC. 55lbs live rock. Percula clown in BTA, yellow tang, coral beauty and lawnmower blenny. Also have a small but getting bigger quickly white Sebae Anemone (feeding every other day trying to bring him back to life). Fire shrimp over 50 blue hermits and about 20 snails. 10 gal sump.
Anyway a friend of mine needs money bad and sold me everything in his 75 gal for 400 bucks. Just under 100lbs of live rock will be added and my tank will be completely re-aquascaped.
I know I cant take the lionfish but I will get a credit at his LPS and his Maroon clown has taken a home his Devils hand. When added I will place the Devils hand at one end of the 4 foot tank and the BTA on the other side. My concern is that the Maroon will want the BTA which is very nice. I was also going to place the Sabae oppsite side from the BTA in hopes that would work as a good home eventually. Will this work?
Next becasue I am adding more than double my LR will the Purple tang and the yellow tang be ok together?
Still kinda new here and to the hobby so any input would be great. Thanks in advance!

my gut feeling is no, but that is close. i am guessing that it is a 5' 120g tank. you will be doing it the right way. reaquascaping everything then adding the fish, so hopefully the yellow will not recognize the place and be a bit easier on the purple.
you can try it, but be prepared to have to take everything down again to get one of them out. you could always just keep the purple and LFS the yellow.

I have 6 tangs in my 180 and they GENERALLY do OK........There will initially be a scuffle between the two tangs. The Maroon will not be an issue unless you have other clowns.

I'm actually kind of curious to know what will happen. I've seen a scopas and yellow scuffle to the death but never a yellow and purple. If I were you, I'd perhaps keep the purple and LFS the yellow one. OR...you could sell it to me. I've always wanted a purple tang.

quite frankly , i think the maroon clown will be the biggest problem . as far as the tangs , it'll depend on size and disposition of each fish .
the lionfish is actually not a bad reef fish providing the other fish are to big to eat , the only problem i had with the one in my tank was there was really to much flow in the tank so it had a hard time finding a calm area to rest . it never even bothered the smaller fish , even the ever tempting firefish . but it was a krill eating machine !

Purples tend to be more aggressive, but It might be ok. I have a purple and a dejadens in my 150. I added them at the same time. The purple is a tad larger and is much more aggressive. At first it was pretty rough they even fought while aclimating, but now 6 months later they get along much better.

Purple is definitely a potential Tank boss...If he is bigger than the yellow he is likely to kill it overtime...
Good luck

I have a yellow and purple in my 180. They are similar in size and get along just fine. Since you are changing the rock around, you should be fine IMO.

I agree, maroons are just bullies, honestly I've never seen a nice 1 in over 10 yrs. in the hobby.

I love maroon clownfishes; I only say this because I've had quite a few different species of clown and the maroon is clearly my favorite. However, I've always wanted a b/w ocellaris also.

Thanks for your help one Last question
Update...Now I can finally add a decent tank to my profile. As advised I didn't take the maroon clown and I did't take the lionfish. I completely changed the aquascape and added almost double the rock to the tank. When I was done the aclimation was done and released the Purple into the tank. The Yellow kept checking the Purple and the Purple was not attacking but not backing down. Yellow is a little bit bigger than the Purple but then the Purple unleashed for the next few hours. Now comes the Question...Should I have ran out to LFS and bought a Yellow eye tang to add into the mix? The Fish Expert said that with 2 tangs their will almost always be trouble but adding a three or more is the best plan, so I did. Good move or bad one?

I dunno about adding more tangs when you got two fighting as it is. Aggression might be dispersed with one more or you could have two dead tangs instead of one. Two zebrascoma species will almost always fight each other and the other will prolly be ignored or attacked if you add it. Like I posted I have two zebrascoma and they they fought until one asserted its dominance and now they're OK. Basically one tang needs to back down and hopefully that will happen soon if not then I'd tend to get rid of one rather than add more.

I wouldn't put 2 tangs in anything smaller than maybe a 210. The purple is an awesome fish (one of my favs). I would be concerned about dominance issues in the tank

Love my purple too. Easily my Favorite fish with the exception of sohol or powder blue which I will not be keeping until I get a longer tank.

I love maroon clowns but don't think you should throw one in there. He's likely to take over the bta and become very territorial and protective of it. I believe they have about a 1 meter "personal bubble". Your Perc may become a target of harrassment fairly quickly. I only say all of this because I had basically just that happen in my 60. I realize you tank is bigger but not big enough for the two types of clowns IMHO. Well, good luck with it, if you go for it I really hope it works out for you, all fish are different and you could get lucky.
