burrowing fish question

Hello! I have a 10 gallon nano with 2 to 2.5 inches of fine sand. Do you know of any cute interesting burrowing fish there are that would do okay in a 10 gallon? I really want a fish that will dig and pop back into it's burrow, but I know a lot of digging fish (if not all of them) need varied substrate, so would it be possible to mix some larger substrate to give the fish more material to build their den? I also have lots of live rock they could burrow under. Thanks sooo much!!!

I have a Two spot goby who i have to say is one of my favorite fish. He digs little caves under my rock for is "den" and sleeps there at night. More recently he made a den under my brain coral and reburried his old cave...he moved lol.

Durring the day he picks up mouthfulls of sand and filters it out through his gills, but mostly gets food from the frozen brine shrimp that i soak in garlic.

Pretty sure they dont get more than 3" long which should be fine for a 10 gallon.

All around entertaining fish. Heres a link to em for some read up.

a ten gallon would be a tough size to get any burrowers. Most of them require a pretty deep sandbed and need plenty of rubble to construct their cave.

Another option would be a pistol shrimp and watchman goby pair

thanks, these are both great ideas! I will check out what my LFS has, I don't really want to order online... seems risky and tough on the fish...

I had no luck with the 2 spot goby. I tried 2 of them. I thought it was a cool little fish, but one died the first night in q/t and the second made it thru q/t and into the main tank. A day later it just dies while I was watching. No distress or anything, I really couldn't believe it. Then my cleaner shrimp grabs it and starts dragging it behind the rocks. The cleaner got too close to my BTA and the BTA ended up with a 20.00 dinner. LOL.

Its also called a signal goby. I like Tony's idea, get a goby/shrimp combo. Good luck.
