Blue Velvet Damsel trouble..
I bought the damsel about 2 months ago, he has been great. About a week ago I purchased another tank that had a piece of liverock with mushrooms and Zoanthids on it, I put it in my tank 4 days ago and now the once flourishing beautiful zoa's are being eaten alive! There are literally pieces missing from them. I have seen the damsel swim by and take a nibble, but can he be doing all the damage? Other inhabitants are a emerald crab, a few hermits (that were in the tank with the zoa's) turbo, stomatella, and nassarius snails and brittle starfish. Most of the damage seems to happen when the lights are on, so im not sure the emerald is touching them. There are spaghetti worms in/on the liverock near the zoa's, but there were in the other tank as well, and i dont think they could do this kind of damage.
I need opinions ASAP, before they are destroyed. I didn't read anything about BVD's being zoanthid eaters!
