Blue spotted jawfish

i just got a blue spotted for cheap i paid 60$ good shape... just fresh into the store.. i have two 55 gal tanks... one is a reef tank with various fish and corals and inverts.. about 60 pds of live rock not glued together.

I have an aggressive tank with a snowflake eel a damsel and a dog face puffer. I'm not sure which tank would be a better home for the jawfish. i know about the fish jumping out . the sand bed in the aggressive tank is deeper and it also has about 60 pds of live rock. My roommate is weary that the jaw fish will rearrange the rock in the coral tank but i believe it wont due to the caves and hiding places in the coral tank.

any suggestions?

they'll probably bury in sand before residing in caves.

I havent had a blue spot my self, but I have cared for them at work and they are jumpers so watch out.
My experience with a Bali tiger jawfish was that it took a cave and built up the substrate around it.
I say it is better of in the reef then in the fowlr.

Blue spot's get stressed very easily and that can be their demise. I'd suggest the reef tank over the predator tank. The BS may become dinner!

How deep is the substrate in the reef? BS's have to burrow and tunnel in the sand. They come from the rubble zone part of the reef, which is very flat and open. They like to be able to see 360d. They spend most of their time building and watching; with their heads popped out of their burrows.

They have to have a LOT of rubble to build their burrows. Varying sizes.. they can drag rocks that are bigger than their own body. They'll also use shells and even frag plugs for building materials.

I just got a BS on Tuesday, and he's already built an impressive burrow that is deeper than his body. Last night he even pulled a rock over the top of the burrow to seal himself in for the night.

These guys are pretty delicate! Be sure to completely cover the top of the tank AND the overflow. Stress seems to be what makes them jump, so a calm environment is MOST important!

They do not do well with aggressive or fast swimming fish. They are very timid and will cower in their burrow and not may not feed with that line-up of predators and may be harassed or eaten. Most definitely put it in the reef tank and add more sand.
