Question

6 line wrasse worth it??

hey guys just wondering what yalls opions on 6 line wrasses are......

im debating on buying one....just to keep kim at ease about there being brisstle worms in the tank.....

are they really worth the $17 or is it just a $17 fish that doesnt really have a purpose??

i mean has anyone actually seen these things eat anything other than fish food?

there are much better wrasses available, in my opinion. 6 lines are considerably too aggressive for my taste, and I usually recommend a canary wrasse in it's stead (or most of the Halicheores genus).

If you want my opinion, I dont really care for 6-lines. Everyone I know with a reef tank seems to try to talk me into one, I'm gonna pass.

Sixlines are one of the fish I consider a 50/50 risk. Some are great docile little fish, while others will terrorize the tank. I also agree with crvz on the yellow canary wrasse as it is one of the favorite fish in my systems.

My 6 line in my 75 is outstanding, but the one in my nano is a devil. I agree, it is about 50/ 50, and in regards to the bristle worms, he eats them some times. I think he prefers the shrimp and flakes I put in better. I would too, less work.

If you have enough space, IIRC you have a pretty big tank. Dollar for dollar it's one of the most beautiful fish available.

If you plan on getting a mandarin later I'd skip the wrasse, otherwise go for it. I have both, but I have a big fuge booming with amphipods.

there is nothing wrong with bristle worms. you actually will not be able to remove them even if you wanted to. they are very beneficial to the well being of the system. if you have a bristle worm problem, then you have a feeding problem.

there are other wrasse's that i feel are more useful in our systems than the 6-line.

the worms dont bother me......im fine with them in there....i know they are good at cleaning up.....its the wife that wants something in there that is KNOWN to eat them....just so she is more at ease....

i wont be getting a 6 line.....i dont want to add anything that will compete with my mandrin for food.....at least not untill the tank is more established....
