yellow leather question
So I am not sure what to think, when I went out this afternoon my yellow leather was perky and normal, but when I got home it was sort of slumping polyps drawn in, also color turned sort of grey like. It seems to be making a bit of a comeback this evening, polyps back out, kinda coloring back up, but still not looking really happy. Did water tests, all seems to be fine. Attached a pic, but not a great one. Anyone know if this is normal behaviour?

Yep, it's normal. As long as your water parameters are in the right conditions, it is normal for leathers to slump sometimes and change figure. When I changed my PC lights into MH nearly two weeks ago, yellow leather slumped and didn't show happiness for nearly two weeks up until today. Although I'd acclimated all the corals to new ligths.
Make sure you don't see any brown or darker spots around the leather. If so, blow if off with a powerhead bacause this fungus seems to kill them.
BTW, DO NOT MOVE THEM TOO MUCH.

Mine is sitting at the very top w/ 150W HQI / Actinics and doing really fine. Also when I got it from the LFS it was also sitting up high with Halides and VHO. I did read a lot about this coral online and they were all stating that it requires intense lighting.
- Maybe, it will survive with low lighting but slow growth.

so it seems like no matter where you place it inside the tank it will thrive. ( I don't believe whatever I read , I observe. )

cutting this cool corals into pieces and attaching it to a piece of rock seems work very well. In a month or so you will have yourself some awesome fiji frags!

Is it normal for them to shrivel up during the lights out period? And then spread out when the lights come back on?
Does phytoplankton help them at all or do they strictly feed off photosynthesis?

Leathers are awsome. I feed mine DT's 3 times a week. Also I had a finger leather that would shrink up for no reason. They all do that. Good luck!!!

Yes, they all shrivel up at night when lights are out. Sometimes they stay that way for a while even when the lights are on, they sulk. They love phyto too.
