Im a newly 6 month proud owner of a reef aquarium and about 2 months ago, my husband and I purchased 2 stocks of pumping xenia. They were just fine, until my hubby decided to rearrange the rockwork AGAIN and I think he may have damaged them at that time. Just tonight, we decided together that we would change our substrate from crushed coral to fine sand due to nitrate problems. We had no choice but to take out all of our rockwork again, and place them carefully in buckets full of the saltwater they came out of, in order to take out the over abundant amount of substrate we originally placed in our 30 gallon tank. After we did all this, and left a little of the substrate in the tank, I noticed this time the xenia's stalks are REALLY skinny at the bottom and they were falling over. A couple of the flowers themselves we're even pulsating and had some brown bullbage stuff around the base of the flower pump. I think it's a mixture of it being malnurished perhaps due to me not feeding them enough of the proper foods, and brown slime. If you guys want, I can provide a photograph, but I know that won't probably make a difference unless you see it in person. I really do love these guys, and hate for it to die on me. My husband thinks Im over-reacting, but my motherly instincts tell me different. Can you respond by email?!!!! Thanks!!
Sincerely,
Katrina
