what are coral supplements


Hey everyone i have a quick question on coral supplements. Do i have to buy these supplements or do they come with the salt.

That's an oddly phrased question. Coral supplements can mean a very wide range of things, but assuming you mean things such as alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, etc., then yes, those are found in your salt mix. However, their values change depending on the salt brand. Also, their taken up by corals and may need to be replenished outside normal water changes through purchased supplements. The only way to know if this is needed is through testing your water, however, so it's near impossible to say if you need to purchase them without a good battery of water testing.

Can you add to much Calcuim? I dont test for it, I just add a few drops every couple of days.

yes you can add to much calcium My favorite reef supplement is Fiji gold great stuff provides Calcium and Trace elements plus help with coraline better then Purple Up IMO and its not harmful to your corals like some of the supplements

Yes... Never add anything to the tank you are not able to or currently testing and know the parameters.

Ca, alk, mag and to some degree pH are all related. If you knock one out of whack you can have issues with each. There is some degree of science needed to keep things in balance
