Trouble with Leather

This is one of my first corals
Last nite I noticed one of his "fingers" was turning black




This morning it was easier to see since his polyps weren't out




By the time I got home from work it had spread

What could cause this to happen? I cut off the affected tissue. Will that stop it from spreading more?

are you sure about cutting them??

Hey I have a question about a leather. It was good until I addded a frag and an umbrella. It hasnt had the swaying things come out for almost a month and we had some pretty severe alga growth that big als told me to take off with my fingers. I also bought a hermit crab and put it on top of him and it has also cleaned off most of the alga,it has shrunk and looks a bit off colour. It did have some red spots on the top of him but they are almost gone. It has wrinkles on its trunk as well...What to do?
