Tips on fragging devil's hand?

So when it comes to corals, I'm not a wiz

I've had a devil'd hand for a few years and it used to drop fingers that I would trade to the LFS. Over the last year, it has become surrounded by mushrooms that have grown right up to it and they are obviously stinging it and the devil's hand is not happy. It has receeded from it's base and split from one healthy looking softball sized piece to four or five small ones with a couple fingers each that never fully extend anymore.

So what is the best what to remove the fingers and move them? Every time I read one way, someone says that it is a good way for the coral to become deseased... Should I use a razor to cut them and then sew them to their new location or put them in a container on the sandbed with some rubble and let them attach themselves... or????

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm really wanting to get this done before my water change late this afternoon.

Thanks!

i would cut them and sew them to the new places. i would use something like fishing line to sew them (it is less visible). after they are sewn to the new rock, make sure you have minimal flow on them so the fishing line does not tear them and they become free roaming. you could also use yarn to tie them down. either way ... low flow until they attatch.

Thanks... I wound up getting them cut this afternoon and have them sitting in small tupperware containers in the tank, resting on rocks. I'll get the sewing kit out later and mount them. I found mushrooms growing under the devils hand, which would explain why they were starting to look so bad and pulling themselves from the rock.

You can also use a rubber band to hold them onto a rock. They will attach themselves within a week and you can remove the rubber band then. A coral dip wouldn't hurt either to help prevent disease. Good luck!
